Etna tour with winery tasting and private transport

Etna tour with winery tasting and private transport

Tour Overview

Sicily is an island where its millennial history can be read through the beauty of its landscape. About 600,000 years ago was born what would become Europe’s highest active volcano, Mount Etna — today one of Sicily’s main tourist attractions and one of Italy’s most visited UNESCO sites. From the volcano’s highest peaks, which locals call “A Muntagna,” you can enjoy breathtaking panoramas and safely approach the most active craters on the southeastern flank.

For Sicilians, Etna is a generous mother: at its base thrive lush fruit and vegetable cultivations, orange and lemon groves; along its slopes, the famous Bronte pistachio is harvested. The mineral-rich volcanic soil makes the estates at the volcano’s feet ideal for native grape varieties, producing the prestigious Etna DOC White and Red wines. This tour is perfect for nature lovers: high-altitude craters in the morning, a renowned winery for DOC wine tasting in the afternoon.

Itinerary

  1. Meeting Point: Pick-up from Messina, Catania, Taormina or nearby locations by private vehicle. We’ll head to the southern flank of the volcano, up to 1,900 m, where the Silvestri Craters Nature Reserve and the Etna cable car are located. Departure must be very early in the morning to avoid long queues at the ticket office.
  2. High-Altitude Excursion: The full excursion reaches 2,500 m by cable car, then 2,700 m by off-road vehicle, and finally on foot with a specialized volcanological guide to approximately 3,000 m to admire the active craters and the Valle del Bove. Suitable for everyone except those with cardiovascular conditions or asthma.
  3. Alternative Options: Visit the Silvestri Craters Nature Reserve at 1,900 m — accessible to all, including those with disabilities — or choose the tourist train or a guided quad bike excursion.
  4. Winery Tasting: After the volcano, we’ll reach one of the selected wineries by private vehicle. Tastings include a winery tour, a vineyard walk (where possible), and approximately 6 glasses of white and red wines with local products. A gourmet lunch can be added upon request.
  5. Return: At the end of the tasting, we’ll return to the starting point (hotel, cruise terminal, airport) according to the client’s needs.
