Lipari and Vulcano Islands boat tour

Lipari and Vulcano Islands boat tour

Tour Overview

The Aeolian Islands archipelago was formed 1.6 million years ago due to the collision between the European and African tectonic plates. Greek mythology depicted these seven stunning islands as beautiful maidens, daughters of Aeolus, the God of Winds. Most of them were originally volcanoes — including Lipari, Vulcano, and the still-active Stromboli.

Lipari, the largest island in the archipelago, has been inhabited since the late 6th millennium BC. Within the castle grounds, visitors can explore prehistoric village remains, the Cathedral, and the highly significant Archaeological Museum. The picturesque Marina Corta still retains its fishing village charm, now complemented by restaurants and cafés.

Vulcano, the closest island to Sicily, is both wild and glamorous. Though no longer active, it still exudes the scent of sulphur and its waters remain naturally warm. Its coves, rocky ravines, and beaches are some of the most beautiful to explore by boat.

Itinerary

  1. Flexible Meeting Point: We meet at Milazzo’s tourist harbour (Poseidon Marina) or Porto Rosa Pier. Private pickup can be arranged from Messina, Milazzo, Patti, or Capo d’Orlando.
  2. Sailing to Lipari: Departing from Milazzo, we head towards Lipari’s stunning White Beach — named for its sand mixed with pumice stone from a former quarry — where you’ll have time to swim and dive in crystal-clear waters.
  3. Exploring Lipari’s Historic Centre: We dock at Marina Corta for a walking tour of the castle’s archaeological site and the Cathedral. Optional visit to the renowned Bernabò Brea Archaeological Museum within the fortified citadel.
  4. Free Time for Lunch: Enjoy lunch at your leisure in Lipari before returning to the harbour.
  5. Swimming Stop & Vulcano: We set sail towards the famous Sea Stacks and Vulcano, exploring the spectacular Horse’s Cave and Venus Pool. On the return to Milazzo we pass by the picturesque black beach of Gelso.
  6. Return: Docking at Milazzo or Porto Rosa, you can return independently or I can arrange private transportation.

The itinerary is fully customizable — you can choose to spend more time exploring Lipari’s history or focus on the sailing and swimming experience.
