Cooking class and social eating with “the moms of the village” plus Motta Camastra visit with private transport

Tour Overview

Motta Camastra is one of the most characteristic villages in the Alcantara Valley, now a River Park, overlooking the famous natural site of the Alcantara Gorges. The river, one of Sicily’s most important, originates from the Nebrodi Mountains at 1,250 metres and flows for about 50 km before emptying near Capo Schisò (Giardini Naxos), along the Ionian eastern coast. The village, embedded in the rock, still retains the charm of places where life flows slowly, far from the hustle and frantic city rhythms. Here was born the experiential tourism project “The Moms of the Village” — a group of moms who, for over ten years, invite their guests to immerse themselves in the most authentic rural life atmosphere, among silent alleys, stone houses, breathtaking views, and stories that are part of the collective heritage.

At the heart of the experience is Sicily’s traditional poor cuisine: ancient recipes that form the essence of daily life on the island. A journey through the flavours of real Sicily, experienced through sharing lunch and preparing simple dishes guided by the skilled hands of the village women. Social eating and cooking class accompanied by tales from mothers, grandmothers, and aunts who prepare simple foods with zero-kilometre products, from the countryside to the table.

Itinerary

  1. The meeting point will be as pre-arranged with the client in Messina, Catania, Taormina, or nearby locations. From there, we’ll travel together by private vehicle to the village of Motta Camastra.
  2. Along the way, we’ll admire the Alcantara Valley, the Peloritani Mountains, and in the background, the imposing beauty of Etna.
  3. Once arrived, we’ll stroll through the village alleys to visit the 16th-century mother church and discover some of the community’s most significant spots: Pippo the barber’s salon, the village bar — the pulsing heart of local social life — and Mrs. Concetta’s shop, open for over seventy years without ever closing a day.
  4. We’ll head to the house set up by the Moms of the Village for social eating and cooking lessons, where guests will learn to make maccheroni al ferretto — handmade pasta using a traditional tool. All diners, big and small, will knead the dough by hand to create homemade pasta, cooked and paired with the Sunday sauce the women prepared when the large family gathered around the table.
  5. After lunch — and not without tasting the homemade limoncello — we’ll leave Motta Camastra to return by private vehicle to the agreed meeting point.

All tour itineraries are customizable and can be modified based on the client’s specific requirements.
